At present time I have a AC110 and an AC50 in my 55 gallon, should I stick with AquaClear for my 55 gal. or should I go a different route. I've heard that the AC110 would be enough, I also read where that cannister filters are better. I don't want to spend an arm and leg on a filter, I would like to stay around 100.00 or so, any suggestions.

I use the Rena Filstar xp filters very reasonably priced, easy to set up, and easy to maintain. Kens Fish has them for 121.95 for the xp3 if you went that way you could remove your hob's.

I don't see anything wrong with keeping your present filter configuration.

I'm a believer in overfiltration so if staying with Aquaclear it would probably be best to keep both running than just utilizing the AC110. Were you to get the canister I'd recommend using it with the HOB(s) rather than as a replacement.

I use a a rena xp3 canister on my 55gallon aquarium and it works very well. Aquaclears are very good hang on back filters, you could go with one of those too.

I use to have a HOB and then tried the rena xp1 (29g aquarium) after that I will never use a HOB. Now I have 2 xp1 and an xp3 on my 55g and they run awesome. Very easy to clean and provide excellent filtration. I feel my money was well spent.
