As some of you know our BTA split. Last night the larger ones, which the clowns host, deflated for just a few minutes. During that time our male clown decided to host the smaller BTA and I decided to take a picture because we rarely get a good picture of him because he's always buried in the nem

Thank you. Those are actually trumpets. Same type or coral as candy canes but the are slightly different. Hopefully I'll have the second 29 gallon set up in the next few weeks.

Heres a growth shot of our green cap. We got this small green cap in May, it was suppose to be a purple rimmed green cap, but it lost its purple for some reason shortly after we got it. It was also slightly damage by an acro. It was slow to grow at first, but now it has completely encrusted the damaged section and its growth has really picked up within the last week or 2 and soon it will attach itself to the rock
Before, you can see some of the purple and the damage

I know there's some algae on it, but I'm afraid to remove it cause it the coral will break

Tank will be a year old next month. I'm been debating on swapping my kenya tree for the 100 polyp fire and ice rock in my new tank. I'll try and get an fts this afternoon and some more pictures of the green cap growth. It seems to be getting larger daily

Does anyone know how to get hair algae off of an elkhorn montipora, its very fragile and I can't seem to get it off. The section that's covered in algae was killed when my green slimer fell on it several months ago and now hair algae grows on it.

to get the algae off, maybe try 2 tweezers? use one to hold the algae at the base, and the other to pull off the algae. that way, no pressure is put on the coral. just a idea

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried and it didn't help so I ended up cutting out the dead section and made 3 frags. I put 2 in this tank and one in my new tank under halides. So far they look good.

We will be picking up an auto top off this weekend. Someone on our local reef club is selling this one http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Auto-Top-Off-Systems/c72/p360/Top-it-Off-Kit-Premium/product_info.html for $25. We are in bad need of one. Without one we can only go away for a day at most. Any longer and the return chamber in the sump would be empty due to evaporation

We installed the auto-top off this weekend and it works awesome. It was pretty easy to install too. Its nice not having to top off 3 times a day.

Pump and temporary reservoir. We are using an aqua lifter pump which works great. The 3 gallon bucket is just a temporary reservoir until I can find a larger one that will fit beside the sump. It is covered up to keep crap out of the water

The tank has finally reached the year mark and is looking great. Its been a fun year that has paid off. Now we just need to fill in some areas with more coral, lol. Here's the most recent FTS, although it a little cloudy due to purple up doseing a few hours before the pic was taken. Look for a crystal clear FTS this afternoon

We have been having a looming algae problem that we just can't get to go away. We've been using a pura pad for phosphate removal but it dosn't seem to be helping anymore. We will be picking up a media reactor tonight from a friend to fill with GFO to hopefully take care of the algae for good

We'll be changing the 10,000K bulbs to 14,000 K next week which will hopefully get rid of the yellow look

I installed some 14000K bulbs in place of our 10000K bulbs and what an incredible difference that made. I'll post some pictures this afternoon

Looking forward to those pics! I notice you have a little shelf for frags, how has that worked out for you? Ive been considering adding somehing similar to attach a coral to the wall of my own reef.

That frag rack is working good. I super glued a piece of eggcrate to a magna float. I think next time I'm gonna get a bigger magna float because this one doesn't carry too much weight, but it works for what I have
Heres the pics.
