View Full Version : Anyone else run into this problem with their SO/Spouce/Etc.?
So my girlfriend, I love her because she's cute like this I guess. Anyway, she came home today to surprise me with something she'd bought for her aquarium to address the snail problem she's having. I've been in and out of the ER twice in as many days because of Bronchitis and I'm feeling like roadkill clinging to life.
Earlier in the month She'd asked about getting some loaches for her aquarium to keep her Rosey Barbs company and maybe get the Ramshorn snails under control, which all sounded fine and dandy to me. So I told her to consider some of the smaller fishy critters mentioned numerous other places on these forums which stay pretty small and will dine readily on snails.
So she pulls out of the brown bag from the petshop three TINY clown loaches, like hardly even an inch long. She knows how big they get, so let's not even go down that road with the finger waving please :14:
I'm in a bit of Shock and Awe, I have clowns myself, and they're all still small and I know I'll need to make them a bigger home when the big one puts on another inch or so. I have mentioned repeatedly that my aquarium was too small for even a few of the fish that were in my tank (Clown Loach and Pictus Cat) when they would reach their adult size.
Her answer, rather strangely, was simply this.
"Let's get like a 100-200gal corner tank or something when we need to upgrade."
:1luvu:
Anyway.... just thought I'd introduce you to my MTS enabler.....

I realllllllllly wish I had that problem... my boyfriend hates fish and I mean really hates them... I cling on to every tank I have with dear life and have to smuggle more tanks into the house when he is not looking and hide them in the attic :hmm3grin2orange:

That's a sure sign she has long-term intentions. :18: You'd better decide right quick whether you want to keep her... :hmm3grin2orange:

But can she COOK? Supporting your addiction, err, hobby is one thing, but it doesn't hit the same spot as a good meal. On the other hand, I'm the better cook between my wife and me, and she doesn't encourage me to upgrade my tanks either. Hmm, why DID I marry her again...? :hmm3grin2orange:

Who cares, lol!?
Ability to do a water change > Ability to cook.

Ability doesn't mean willingness...

They're not a fast grower so you'll have some time to upgrade. But tiny loaches may have a hard time eating snails, other than the baby ones. Make sure they are fed some algae waffers now and then, as well.
What kind of corner tank is 100-200 gallons?

LOL I think it is meant to be. I had to force my bf to help me set up the tanks. I mean force to........as in you get none unless you help. LOL He hated the whole fish idea, until he saw the eggs, then the fry. Now he wants to get huge tanks. Life is way easier when you guys have a hobby in common, my parents have been married for almost 50 years because they shared the love of gardening, when ever they would "have a dispute" they would just go work on the garden, and that was that. :)

My girlfriend has given me an ultimatum:
"Baby first, new tank later!"
What am I going to do?????

Will-do.
And I think the "or something..." covers the capacity aspect of it.:c2:
Alfcea buddy... that's a heck of an ultimatum.

See, you can cover 2 birds with one stone. The new tank would be your baby.:hmm3grin2orange: You have to nurture it into adulthood. Doesn't that count?

The solution is simple, breed guppies.
show her the babies and tell her you need a new tank

My girlfriend thinks as I do: aquariums are a decorative accent. She didn't blink an eye when I told her about the 40-odd tanks I have, and I had to get her a 180 gallon tank so she could keep the sea horses she'd fallen in love with. Our mutual fish fascination is probably why we've been together so long.

My partner doesn't like the whole aquarium thing and protests wildly every time I buy a new one. But then after a couple days he's gotten used to the idea and doesn't bother me about it.
Even tho he doesn't like my hobby he decided to build me a new stand for 3 of my tanks, and he's made sure it's all perfectly square and level and put heaps of time and effort into it, he says it's because "it's for you, so it has to be perfect".

Love it! You've definately got a keeper there W Oz, LOL.
My hubby gets that I love fish, willingly buys me new fish (which is sometimes a bad thing, when he doesn't ask and turns up with an oscar!!! Which turned into a good thing but will require a bigger tank which he has no problems about! YAY!) and will sometimes help me cart the buckets during water changes, is forever trying to "make it easier" to change water, but still doesn't understand the process or help clean the tanks. Me atop a ladder at 8 1/2 months pregnant syphoning gravel was a bit hairy! But he loves the tanks and has even helped plan the new ones (notice the multiple "ones" there, LOL) so can't complain at all!
Go the big corner tank! They can look so good! Think I might have to plan one of those too....hmmm
8 1/2 months pregnant atop a ladder doing water changes, that's dedication!
I'm glad to know that I'm not alone with my "problem" on this. =)
Happy fish keeping and anyone know where I can find a deal on an Acrylic tank? -_^*

Oh god I wish I had that problem
My boyfriend "tolerates" my "obsession". I've been told, no more buying fish, no more tanks etc. I have one 60L tank, with 18 fish... not really all that much :(
AND I have so many plans for bigger tanks, so the whole no more tanks thing crushes me... but I'm hoping it'll be OK eventually when we have a bigger place (so I have about 5 years to wait)
