The viquarium has been set up for a while not. I think all the previous pics were from when it was just put up. All the houseplants are doing great in the gravel with water running through it (hydroponics). The bamboo, pothos, aquatic plants, etc. are all doing great. The inhabitants are: 4 firebelly toads, 2 firebelly newts, 2 eastern newts, some snails, and a bunch of guppies. The toads get crickets, every thing else gets NLS.

Very cool, fishguy, and the animals look very healthy. Shame more don't dedicate space for such a setup.

Until you figure out that they bark at night! No joke, if you listen to a fire belly toad at night, they bark just like dogs to communicate.

They are cool though, funny to watch them catch crickets -- sometimes they miss, or get something else with the cricket in their mouth, but then they don't wanna open to let it go!

Thank you.

Actually their calls are quite quiet, very subtle. Definitely not like treefrogs or anything.

I had not had this setup in this size tank before or in a long time, so when I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with the 55 I just decided to do it again.

I want to point out that it is required to have setups like this to mix these types of species. In a small tank setup without as much decor it is very easy for toads to injure newts. In this type of a setup there is enough room and the right kind of decor that they have yet to have any problems. This does not mean that you can keep them together in any setup, but it shows that it is not a set in stone rule that you can't keep them together. It has to be done very carefully. In addition, for a 55, the numbers are also pretty low. Crowding would also increase the likelihood of something bad happening.

I have only had them a few months, so presumably 9 months or so. Many are still wild caught in which case there is no way to know.
