Most plecos are primarily vegetarians, though they can eat other stuff. Takes a lot of food to keep them going, thus it goes through them a lot, as you've seen . . .

I've a 14-year-old, 16-inch long Panaque nigrolineatus (Royal pleco) and you can imagine . . .

Yip Pleco's are lean mean pooping machines...... especially the wood eating panaque's - I have a few and although I rarely see them all I have to do is follow the pile of poop to know where they are :hmm3grin2orange:

Wait until the canoe eaters are full-grown adults, Fishalicious. They tend to station themselves in the middle of the tank, lord or lady of all they survey.
Which Panaques do you have?

What type of Plecos are we talking here? What size tank are these going in? As you've found out, plecos are very messy fish, and five of them won't be happy living together unless you have a monster tank to put them in (for five full grown common plecos, I would guess you need at least 200-300 gallons of tank, maybe more).

It's normal for them to poop that much. They are regular poo machines.I always say it comes out as fast as it goes in. Wow with having that many you are really in for a lot of water changes.

Why so many Plecos? I'm not an expert by any means, but if I were going to try and stock a tank with that list, I would probably go for 300 - 500 G (1100 - 1900 L) at least, but you could probably go much smaller with fewer plecos (or perhaps smaller plecos, like some bristlenoses).

I have one juvenile pleco and it craps EVERYWHERE. OMFG! I almost want to take it out. I figured, at least I know he is eating.

The short answer ... yes.

My pleco just decided to start decorating for Fishmas. Long strands strung across, and around and over the plants, rocks, and driftwood like great poo garlands.

:sley:

Plus he think's he's a lawnmower, cropping my dwarf hairgrass plants down to the surface of the substrate.
