How large is the tank and, excluding the red devil, what else is in the tank?

I wouldn't recommend mixing the red devil and frontosa, or adding the single frontosa to a tank smaller than 75-90gal. If the tank is smaller than that, I'd suggest not consider getting the frontosa. Frontosa's also do better in groups which would inherently mean keeping them in a 6ft+ tank.

Frontosa's are relatively passive cichlids (so if the two co-habitated and aggression broke out, it would likely be one-sided with the red devil dominating because it's a more aggressive fish and already established in the tank..'home team advantage' carries LOTS of weight).

I keep some south american earth eaters with my fronts, but they're docile. A red devil would almost certainly bugger the front to death.
