Hello,

I have enjoyed watching my two mollies breed over the years I quit counting and now I am starting to mix the different color mollies to produce more colorful offspring instead of my silver mollies. Anyways, I just bought a 55g w/stand and want to transfer my mollies and clown loach into the new tank in the next few weeks (after cycling and all that). What I would like to know is what can I do to make the tank better suited for the mollies to breed? I am deciding between a planted aquarium or a sand substrate with rocks and drift wood. I have the sand, rocks, and wood and would be the cheaper route. However, I do like the planted aquarium but I would have to buy a light and new substrate. What would you recommend to do? Maybe you have a different idea that will work.

Thanks!

Also, I hope this post is in the correct section because I saw another area on the forums for breeding. I think it falls under both but not positive. Also, I do have red flourite for doing the plants so I am leaning towards planted aquarium if I can find a deal on a light.

This section is fine....
I would buy the lower light plants (its easier) and will let you focus more on the fish lol i would have a lotof java moss and LOTS of hiding places for the baby fry..... or you can have the females and watch for them bineg pregnant and look put them in a differnt tank and just have a fry tank..

Don't do a separate frye tank with mollies...they need an oldestablished tank to thrive in...they need algae...as they as well as adults have that in their diets...

I would also go with the planted with alot of java moss and floating plants for fry to hide. But be careful before you know it you will have tons of fry.I know from experience lol.
