Quarantine time?

Well, we're back from vacation and all the fish survived. So now we're planning on adding a few more fish and we were wondering about the appropriate time for a quarantine.

We bought a 5 gal tank, added gravel, a small plastic plant, heater and aeration. We're going to put three platys in and quarantine them before adding them to our other tank.

How long should the quarantine last? We were planning on 1.5-2 weeks. Enough time to treat anything that develops so we don't introduce anything in the main tank (again!)

i quarantine all fish that i put in my tank for 2-3 weeks.

Two weeks is the recommended time frame.

2 weeks is good.
I have read books where they say to quarantine them for 4 weeks, but if you buy healthy looking fish, you won't need to keep them that long in there.

No time frame is perfect, fish can carry diseases for years and show no signs of it until all of asudden you have a breakout. I think 2 weeks is minimum.

Well, the last time we introduced fish in the aquarium, they nearly killed everything we had. On the positive side, our search for remedies and answers led us to this wonderful site.:19:

So this time we bought a quarantine aquarium before getting more fish. We also found some platys that weren't sick (as far as we can tell), so that should help too.

Two week, unless problems arise. Sounds good to me.

Within a couple of weeks you will see if there will be an ick outbreak or any fungus shows. Very good decision you have made and can save you a diseaster in your tank by quaranting.
