Well, there are a number of factors that come into play.
1. Pedigree - what breeder do they come from
2. Quality - are they good healthy well formed specimens
3. Location - where do you live
4. Size - larger the better
5. Breeding - Are they wild or captive bred
6. Color - different color strains are worth more

Those things will all go towards determining the cost of Discus.

that seems like a reasonalble price for a discus of good quality at that size i have seen them range from $25-$300 dollars sometimes just depends on the strains and purity of the strain as well

I've seem for $39 up to $300. The cheaper ones might not be pure stock...such as mixed between a turquoise and a red, etc, but still would be a nice pet.

They also eat alot so food is a big cost. I know a guy that keeps half a dozen discus and feeds them a good 5-6 times a day

i feed mine 6 times a day and my LFS sell food ect in bulk for me so if u get a few and are well known in the area u could try asking them

Up here in central maine, I pay about $27 for a "medium" (about 3/3 1/2'') in length. Very limited quantities, and even more limited variations. If you order a discus around here, you can have it any color that you want. As long as its brown.
