We were looking around at our java fern and noticed about a dozen fry in the its roots. It looks like one female out of the 4 gave birth. would it be ok to leave them there. I don't know how we would ever catch them, they are so small and the roots are so entangled. I'm just worried about feeding them, crushed flakes will never make it too them.

I will be setting out 10 gallon breeder back up, it was temporary dismantled to make room for the FOWLR

I managed to get a few into the breeder box for now and they are eating now. I snaped a few quick pictures to. I think one of the others is going to give birth tonight to, she looks like she's having contractions.

Look at the female betta sitting by the breeder box, she looks hungry:hmm3grin2orange:

This is exciting, and its raining so the pressures changed...and I need to do a water change...so maybe, I can get the cories to spawn:27:

Ty, I managed to catch 8 and put them in a breeder box in our 10 gallon, but there are still 3 or 4 more in the 55 community. Then we put the female that looked dialated into the 10 gallon breeder a few minuets ago, and so far she's had 3, but i know she will have more. The fry are bigger pigs then the bigger ones. We are feeding them crushed flakes.

We'll be trying to catch all of them out of the community. Then when they are big enough, we will have just the males in the 10, and females in the 55, until we find someone to buy them.

Now 2 of our females have given first. we have counted 30 that are in our 10 gallon breeder, and there are still a few more in the 55 that we couldn't catch, with 2 more females about to give birth we will have too many fry...lol

We were originaly planning to use most for feeder for our bettas and goldfish, but non seem interested in them. So we will grow them out and put them up on craigslist for free with a $2 each "rehoming fee" since you can't sell them. I know some people would love to have virgin females. We will also keep a few. The remaining female will stay in the community tank and we will let natural selection handle the rest of them.

What kind of fish are they. I have 2 mollies that i want to breed. I`m a begginer at breeding fish and would love to breed some. Of course i wont be able to keep them all. But i would love the experince. I would probably try to sell them here. Just till their around 3 months old and the pet store will take them. Thanks & congrats.

I don't have any pictures, as I droped my camera in a bucket of saltwater yesterday, but they look Really boxy before giving birth, and if you look closly at their vent, it actually dialates right before they give birth. The first one gave birth without us knowing. Then another One of ours started acting funny, and was really boxy, so we moved it to a breeder box, and the next morning she gave birth while we were watching. Shortly after we moved the 3rd to the box and she gave birth the next day. The last one we are leaving in a community tank and letting the babies survive natural. Its gonna be hard enough raising 60. We don't need 30 more.

Almost week one and they are growing fast. Only ones that died are the ones we fed to our angel fish, and that wasn't many. I'm going to set up a second 10 gallon tonight and split the group in half to ease up the biological load since they are growing. Once their big enough to not be eaten, males will be in the 2 10's (because they are smaller) and females will go into the community 55 until i can sell/ give them away. I'd estimate that there are around 50 or so, but its to hard to count them all
