I am going to be converting my 10g into a FOWLR tank and I have a question:

Even though it is going to be a FOWLR how much flow should I have (GPH)? I will probably upgrade to a reef pretty quick but I want to let it get really mature (maybe 4-6 months) before I get coral and such. Also, there should be two powerheads? One sort of pointing at the LR and the other one making the surface of the water ripple?

for flow i would get a koralia 1. in a 10g, youre fine with just 1 powerhead

Now comes another question, lighting. Since it is going to be a FOWLR I am just going to get a cheap light to go in the hood but I am not sure which one I should get or if one of them would be better over the other.
One is a 50/50 6500k compact fluorescent light and the other one is just a 10000k compact fluorescent light. They both are good for SW with all the right spectrums and such, but which one?

Not to highjack the thread, but how much would a decent 10 gallon nano reef cost? Just with decent gear and decent fish, etc. I really don't know that much about salt water and just wanted to check to see if it would fit in my budget.

Your not highjacking at all. I decent tank with coral and lighting and stocking etc...would cost about $500.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's quite a bit more than I would have guessed. Looks like I'm stickin' with my freshwater tanks for a while. ha.

For FOWLR, type of lighting doesn't matter much. The 50/50 (or even 10000K) would probably be more appealing to the eye than the 6500K.

How would you itemize that price tag? (just to provide thejaegermonster what $500 gets).

yeah, go with 10k+. 6500k alone doesnt look good.
