So I have recently just got my first betta, MarsGradivus, and I love him. However, I feel like his living area is semi lacking in the decoration department. I had a small buddha in there, but he didnt seem to be a big fan.. I am thinking of putting in a wodden back massager... It is basically one large sphere with 4 smooth round legs connected to a smaller round ball each. Can I use this, even though it is made of wood?

btw hi!

Welcome to the forum, Betta777. Depends on several things whether you can use that back massager in your tank. One, it's likely varnished, which will poison the Betta's water. Two, you don't know what wood it's made of, so in both cases, I wouldn't use it.
Better bet would be to go to the shop you got him from and pick up a wood ornament that's aquarium safe.

My concerns are two, and just two.

First, the thing might float, which would be bad. ;)

Second, the thing might rot or have a toxic finish, which can be fixed with some good old fashioned epoxy or other aquarium safe sealant (several coats).

If it turns out the thing does float, I'd take the opportunity to drill a (big) hole in the bottom of it and fill it with lead shot then cork that with a piece of doweling and seal the whole thing after I made sure it would sink in water.

Welcome aboard!
