Has anyone here had any experience with this fish? There is something about a large, predatory livebearer that seems interesting to me. Other than a large tank, lots or plants and feeders does anyone have any advice?

Wonderful fish! I've read about them before, but I can't keep them because they are illegal where I live. If you plan on breeding them, make sure you keep the female well otherwise it might eat the male. How big is he?

WOW. Does that ever look like a Northern Pike!Good Luck and I hope you have a very large tank.
My brother raised A wild caught Muskie in a childrens vinyl pool with metal sides.It grew from finger nail size to about 18" in a year and a half.Unfortunatly he found out that he needed a lid on his pool the hard way.
Ironically ,we went fishing and found him dead on the floor when we got home.If it is a pike ,cold water and lots of tall grass.We fed it some pellets and an abundance of minnows.



Don't forget your lid as they like to jump sometimes.

What the person has is not a pike, its a livebearer.

When I got these fish I had a hard time finding information on them. I was quite pleasantly surprised when I found a great article on them in Tropical Fish Hobbyist.

Alright of course you need at least a 30g tank lots of plants good filtration they eat small feeder guppies and the females grow up to 8in.(5 more likely) and the males get to 4in. do not keep them with any other fish under 4in. or big enough for the pike to swallow. They are very interesting fish and rather easy to breed!

You should check your state laws first. They are illegal in some states.
