In a local creek there is a group of southern spotted gudgeons a spcieces which is rated as Endagered, unfortunertly they seem to only breed once a year and many of yeare eggs and fry are eaten by the eels and Plague Minnows, and not only that, but its a storm water drain so when the gras and platns start to over grow they get a bulldozer in and rip the platns out to widen the creek pulling several Gudgeons onto the bank and burrying them to die, i want to take a few and set up a breeding tank and try and help restore them but dont know wheather i should or i should just let them go at there own pace what do you all think?

If they are on the endangered species, there might be a big fine for you taking any. Too bad they aren't collected and sent to fish farms.

Chances are you will get a hefty fine for taking an endangered species out of its naturalu habitat. There is always the possibility that you dont get caught... lol

i would personally NEVER try to keep an endangered species. besides being illegal, i have a serious moral issue with that too

I'd suggest that you call your country's wildlife department or environment department and tell them what is being done to the creek. In the US, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will intervene to protect the habitat of endangered species. Hopefully, Australia has similar policies to protect endangered species. If that doesn't work, or not quickly enough, contact the World Wildlife Fund. They should have the pull to get the government to cooperate and do something.

That is probably the best thing you can do.
It's a really good thing that you're not just standing around and complaining about the fish but actualy might be saving them. Good Job!

seeing that u have had them for three months i would of kept them. in my eyes you were helping them. I mean if they are getting destroyed and being abuse by ppl that dont care about wildlife laws then how could u be breaking them if you caring for them and breeding them. but i do wish u luck on what ever u decide to do

at the time i bred them, i was unaware what they were i just kept them as a pet because i caught them while harvesting Plague minnows for my old barramundi, i wish i had kept them -sigh- strangley enough it is the government who is hurting them, i guess they just dont know theyre in there, they even sliced an eel in half clearing that area, i want an eel now, i might catch one, also there is young turtles in there swiiming happily,
I pull back the gras and reeds alot to so that it doesnt overgrow and they bring in the heavy machinery but still i might breed them, but like 100gw its only if get caught, and i am only trying to help like you said, tomorow morning as the sunrises i shall go to the creek and check them
