I have a three spot blue gourami that's almost two years old. It's pretty large and very skittish. I've noticed that it has what appears to be a few bumps on it's sides, and where the bumps are the scales are a little darker color. Is this cause for concern? It seems ok otherwise. Water tests good, tankmates fine.

Welcome Hankdan!
Before your question can be answered we need a bit more information.
How big is your tank?
What are the tank mates?
What substrate and decorations have you got?
Filtration set up?
What is your water testing at?
Is there anything he could bump himself on and lose scales?
Any tank mates that might be having a go at him?

The tank is 12 gals., the tankmates are two white skirted tetras, a honey gourami, and a bristlenose plecostomus. None of the other fish are bothering the blue gourami - they're all afraid of it. The substrate is gravel, and there are three healthy live plants, a piece of driftwood and a rock. Filtration is an Eclipse system filtration (not undergravel). Tank has been running for 8 years.

Have you got a pic? Is there any chance he scratched himself on the rock and these are just the new scales?
12G sounds a little small to me for your stocking...

Did the bumps just appear over night, or slowly grow? Are they red, or white, or what color? Is there any pus or anything?

Pictures are the best way to help get an answer to this kind of stuff
