I never realized how well my weather loaches controlled the snail population in my tank. Here's my question....What would fit in a 10g, not eat my plants and control snails? It has to be compatible with dwarf gouramis, sparkling gouramis and plecos (small bristlenose). For those who don't know my tank setup, it's a crushed rock substrate with real and fake plants. Any ideas?

Abbeys_Mom-

How about a small group of kuhli loaches.

I have 4 in my planted 5 gal along with a pair of oto cats and a bumblebee goby. Theyl've done quite a good job getting rid of the excess ponds snails and keeping the population down. Just make sure you provide some sort of object, like a rock, driftwood, etc., that they can crawl under. If the gouramis don't get too big and mistake the kuhlis for earthworms, both groups should get along fine.

you could also get a small tank and keep only snails in it. this way they wouldn't die.

I don't believe my kuhli's have ever touched a snail....they bred quite well in their tank. I have read that botia striata are one of the best for eating snails but I don't remember the minimum tank size.....I was looking at my 29 gal. Try dropping a piece of nice lettuce, cucumber or zucchini in overnight and see how many snails you can collect in the morning. Not only will they love it, so will your other fish most likely. Then you can remove them easily by simply removing the veg and bring them here to my puffs thumbs2:

I read up on Yo Yo loaches, but they recommend 29g or more. I don't get why, they only get to be 4 inches or so. I have a kuhli, but he's not eating snails as far as I know. I wonder if I can get 1 Yo Yo....I know they are supposed to be in groups, but that doesn't they HAVE to be.
The snails are multiplying to quick for the bait method, plus my pleco eats everything laying on the bottom.

Anyone have Yo Yo loaches? I read that they can eat small fish, would they eat my sparkling gouramis?
