hard to tell from just the nitrite reading. can you post your ammonia and nitrates as well as ph and water temperature please. It will give a little insight to what is going on..

if youre ammonia is 0 something is up, you keep doing water changes yet you have constant nitrites. im thinking its the test kit

Describe your whole set up again please?
Water perameters, Items in tank, Fish...etc...
Also test your house water if it reads 0 PPm then your test kit is working fine.

Where did you get the plants from? If from the pet shop did you get the plants from the fish isle or the reptile isle?

Where did you get the slate from?

It cant be your test kit or your tap water would have tested positive for nitrites.

You sure its not the mixed carbon type stuff in your filter? You know the speckled one that is ammo chips and charcoal mixed?

Are you sure there is no Nitrite or ammonia removal product in the filter or anywhere else in the tank?

Where did the gravel come from?

How long has tank been up?

I don't hear anything out of the ordinary. Sometimes a cycle can get stuck on this phase of the process for some time. I'd stop doing the water changes so frequently and let it ride. Just my opinion.

I'm on the same page as gm72 here. A week is not a long time yet. It takes longer for the nitrites than for the ammonia to turn to 0. I would do nothing now until they turn to 0. Nitrites can sometimes appear to get "stuck" but we're talking them remaining the same for much longer (like 3 weeks) without changing. Yours is just fine.

Again I'll say it just sounds like you aren't done yet.

Sometimes takes over a month.

Sorry I didn't ask this to start with.
