I adopted a 1" baby mississippi map turtle about a month ago, and I am rather concerned about his health.
The aquarium is a 75 gallon filled with 6 inches of water. I use a big canister filter and a heater in the aquarium to keep the temp at 78-80 deg. I also have a 2" blue mystus catfish, 2" common crayfish, 2 tetras, 7 guppies , and a 2.5" african clawed frog. My turtle was actively swimming and basking when I first got him, but recently he has been staying behind the basking area by the heater sitting between a fake plant and the aquarium glass. He is however eating well.

If you have any advice for me, it would be greatly appreciated because I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Thank you! :)

Do you have a heat lamp over the basking area? Have you changed it lately?

If it is eating well it is probably fine, but you should definitely keep a good eye on it.

Do you have the proper UVB lighting over the basking area?

I use a heat spot basking lamp and have a uv bulb also, so there are 2 lights aimed on the basking platform. The UV light is one of the curly ones that emits a fluorescent looking light.

Is the UV light rater at 10.0?
Try moving the heat bulb a little farther away from the basking site, it may be a bit too close and be too warm.

I moved the lamp last night, and when I got back from work today, the turtle was still in his usual spot.
