So the new 55 gallon I got a few days ago.....I took it outside the other day to hose it down. I didn't have any vinegar to clean it out...so I just sprayed water into the tank, scrubbed, then dumped the water. Today my dad was talking about getting stuff put away around the house before the hurricane hits and then points out this big dead patch of grass in the yard. Thats where I was cleaning my tank and dumped the water!! I only used water! No cleaners, no soap, no nothing......
So obviously there was some kind of nasty chemical in there and now I'm worried about how to get it completely clean to where I dont have any chems killing my fish when I go to put them in there. Its a long while off but still.....how do you make sure theres absolutely nothing in there that can kill the fish?

Rinse and fill and drain a few times then throw some danios in and see how they do fro a month or more.

I would really rather not do that, b/c if they survive then I will have to keep them and I really don't want any danios. lol

Well only way is to use some type of sacrificial fish....

FWIW i hope you guys do ok. Us in-landers are prob gonna be ok but yall towards the coast might have a rough ride. I got our genny all set to go just yesterday just in case. If the tank was a salt water tank and there was dried salt left in it, wouldn't that kill the grass? When I used to live up north, there was always a line of dead grass bordering the street from where the salty snow from the road sat. Took alot longer to go green than the rest of the lawn.
