I am starting up a red eyed tree frog terrarium! I already have plants and substrate in the tank. I just need to get a waterfall, live food, vitamin supplements, more plants, and the materials to make a small water feature. I can't wait to get them!!

How ironic!! I will post pics as soon as I get everything for it. I am actually thinking about taking everything out and getting a different tank because I found a really good deal on 2 terrariums that would be perfect for them!! Where are you buying your frogs from?

It's no problem. I enjoy having someone else doing the same project as I am! I am wanting to get a fogger. Someone told me that they tear up easy, but I am going to form my own opinion. And I was also told you should get the zoo med brand or small rio because the exo terra tear up easy. They said that the zoo meds can run dry for a month before tearing up and the others don't last long at all. And to be honest, I have no idea what kind of plants these are because I got them from petco and they had them labeled as 'Tropical Plants' and that was it. But from what I understand most of them are. I want one of them that has the bright colored things on them. And I am using a 20 hex.
Not to bomb on you or anything, but the froggies won't have much room to climb in a 20 long. I have read that they spend most of their time on the walls and they have to have a taller tank for climbing. I am getting my frogs offline. http://reptiledepot.com/frogs.html
I am getting the babies for 16.99

i got the zoo med kind off of ebay for $20 total! really good since they are kinda fragile! im not really sure what kind of frogs i want, since darts can be really expensive..i might just get some fire-bellies since i want a good portion of the tank to be water..idk i think ill finish the tank first then decide :)

Cool. I will have to order some of my other plants offline because none of the close pet stores carry anything like that.

Looks good! I was going to use some of that gs foam, but then I got to thinking, if I wanted to use this tank for something else like fish I wouldn't be able to because the foam may be toxic to my fish! I will probably just buy a background for mine instead or rig something up lol. What kind of substrate is that? I used cypress mulch. I was told it would be the best for them and you can get it cheaper at lowes or home depot for like $3 a bag instead of buying these smaller bags for $10 a piece. Good luck! Did you decide what froggies your putting in there?

well for the base layer i used hydro-balls, then rocks, then some coco-fiber stuff....i wasnt gonna use the foam at first but i figured i could do more with it...still not sure on the froggies though..hmm.. :)

Are you going to put some of the coco fiber stuff on the foam so it covers it up? Why don't you try fire belly toads? You can make a nice water feature for them :)

Yea lol. And yea, I love them! I haven't ever gotten to get any, put I love their colors and their little "warts" on them LOL
I think you could make something really pretty for them if you went with them. You could set up their little waterfall and then make them like a little stream or something so they can get into it. :) I bet this will be fun!

I hate to interrupt you girls, you have a nice gab session going on.I would have gotten on this sooner but Ive been under the weather.Kayla:Have you ever kept tropical tree frogs? They are fairly demanding and will be especially so since you are getting baby's.I have read your thread as closely as I could and it does sound like you have the equipment list down fairly pat.I have some suggestions though, compressed coco fiber is far better the cypress mulch as it will not harbor mold quite as easily.A fogger is really unnecessary if you can mist manually twice a day with soft water [bottled but not mineral].Check out my photo gallery concerning building a vivarium,I have some pics that make things a little clearer http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fishpictures/showgallery.php?cat=664
Also here is a good site for tropical plants and info
