I'm just wondering because my hood thing is elevated because of heat problems from the spiral CFC... So is it ok if i get an apple snail? Would they escape and stuff?

i had a huge softball sized african snail 5 years agp in a hoodless tank with no issues. if youre worried, get eggcrate and use it as a hood

I have heard of Nerites taking a walk but not apple snails.. I know my MTS and Ponds have never gone on a walkabout.

I had a couple snails about a year ago in a 2.5g that both crawled out and died because the couldn't find they're way back in. I found one at the doorway to my bedroom and the other under my bed (tank was on the floor).

Yes applesnails could escape as they lay their eggs above the water therefore climbing out.

Apple snails are illegal in California, so you shouldn't be getting any.
