I have 1 male / 1 shemale krib (14 months). They seem to always avoid
each other with exception of male chasing her away and nipping her at times.

I would like to get a compatible pair, but I read conflicting opinions
as to having more than 1 of each sex in the tank.

Can someone set me straight on which way to go here.
1- Add more to tank - if so which denominations?
2- Replace current 2 with new stock?
3- Leave them be, hope for the best?

Thanks in Advance.

I'd suggest 3 females to 1 male.

ive been wondering the same thing, and would it be possible to keep just one breeding pair in the same tank?

If you have enough room, you could keep a dozen and they wouldn't care. For small tanks though you have to keep a pair (male and female) that are paired or 1 male - 2 or 3 females. Generally the females will get along if there is no male. I have had males get along, and females that didn't. The best way is to add a few and see what happens over a week or two. With cichlids, it is always best to have multiple tanks running, as even a pair that have gotten along for years can suddenly take to attacking each other and need to be separated.

Got back from Pet-Cetera. Looked for a few kribs to add to my tank.
Fish are in about a 8" square tanks. There were 18 male ans 3 female kribs in one tank (they had lovely colors). Two females had all fins bit down to nubs and couldn't swim.
I was to say the least not impressed. Asked the person why don't you move them. Reply was NO if local rep comes in and i have them in a diff tank than the store plan calls for I will get fired.
I said makes no sense lots of empty tanks, they should thank you for saving thier stock hence making them money.
To no avail they are doomed the m,ales are beat up bad too.
I wanted to save them but dont think they would recoupe from this.
Darn shame.
