hey all i finaly joined,

my set up right now its 2 alge eaters and 2 bala skarks and 1 (cannot rember) in only a 10 gallon tank, I will be upgrading to about a 55 gallon soon.

I do very regular water changes but still am trying to fight off alge. With the alge eaters the first one was really lazy and didnlt do much so I bought a chineese algy eater and he is a work horse while the other one hides. but still algy is there. any advice please?
and would a 55 gallon tank be large enough for 2 fully grown balas when they get to there max size.

this forum looks like agreat place for info and enjoy all the helpfullness!

thanks!

dont think a 55gal will be big engouh for them, is your tank near a window, does it get alot of sun light or artifical light? these are often the main causes along with nitrates, the by product of nitrite.

hate to break it to ya but, a 55 gallon is nowhere near big enough for one full grown bala, let alone two, sorry. welcome to the site though.--jeff

Hi there and welcome to AC Community forms.

You made the mistake that so many first time first keepers do. Go out and get fish that will need a whole lot more room than we can ever give them.

I originally also started with a 10 gallon and you guessed it.......3 bala sharks went into it. They were later moved into a 55 gallon but one later died.

I put down my remaining two this week. They had only gotten to about 6 inches since I got them a year ago but they disrupted the entire tank. They are sure fun and enjoyable fish but these fish need 100 gallons or more. They are very fast, blast into other fish, run into decorations and the glass. They need much more room. I would return them to the store for a more suitable fish.
