This one will be in more detail than the one in the saltwater section

part 1- bought the tank. found it at a garages sale for $10, looked like a 33g, but its a 55g breeder (same length as a 33g but as wide as a 90g). it has thick 1/4" glass so its older. It was loaded with freshwater stuff (single fluorescent light, river rocks, UGF, HOB filter, 25w heater), and the previous owners drained the tank WITHOUT removing the UGF, so there was slimy waste allover the bottom of the tank

first thing was a background, figured blue will give the tank a nice look. Bought 2 cans of krylon fusion paint, taped the trim so it didnt get painted, and painted the back of the tank with about 8 coats

after that, i added 60lbs of aragonite, a shoplight with 80w of 50/50 fluorescent light, and built a stand with cinder blocks (its hard to find a stand for a odd shaped tank)

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w31/cocoa_pleco/10-08-08_1459.jpg

after, i filled it with reverse osmosis water, and about 10lbs of cured live rock. i bought a koralia 3 powerhead too, which gives perfect flow

after i had no ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate readings, i added a scooter blenny, which eats copepods. i added some pods from my standard 55g

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w31/cocoa_pleco/16-08-08_1419.jpg

after, the tank cleared up a bit more

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w31/cocoa_pleco/16-08-08_1420.jpg

then, clearer!

next, a reef store here was having a street sale last week, with lots of new and used stuff cheap. i was mainly looking for a 36" light for the tank, and i found a coralife 36" 2x96w power compact light with moonlights for $70, it retails for over $300 new. catch was 2 fans and a moonlight are broken

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w31/cocoa_pleco/23-08-08_1321.jpg

i stopped at big als and got new legs for the light. i need the fans fixed ASAP, as the fanless side gets ridiculously hot. the fixture is not running now til it gets fixed. i found a guy on a local ad who said he would replace the fans tomorrow

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w31/cocoa_pleco/26-08-08_2213.jpg

my mantis and 10lbs of jakarta live rock were supposed to come today, but my peacock mantis had to be special ordered from the Philippines and it got delayed til friday, so i get my mantis and jakarta rock saturday or sunday. since the tank is shallow, my light will allow almost all soft corals, some SPS, and a anemone. some soft corals will be added when the light is fixed tomorrow

it will look alot better once the light is going, the tank has had no lights for about 4 days because im scared the light will catch fire without fans. the guy thats fixing it today sounds like he knows what hes doing so i should have it running again and i can add a few corals

lights fixed, it actually had no fans on the one side (they got ripped out or something) and no wiring, so he tapped into my other fans wiring and now ive got all the fans going, the light can now be on

talked to some people on a saltwater forum, and i guess some of the fixtures purposely dont have second fans, the slots for them on the other side are just for show. they even said without 4 fans the fixtures a fire hazard. lights nice n cool now though

i hope the mantis and live rock come this weekend, i want to actually have new stuff in for a FTS. lol

went to the store i always go to today, and i thought the leftover stuff from last weeks sale would be on ebay or something, they still had it. lol. they had a 250w MH with pendenr and ballast for $125, and a sealed aquafuge with skimmer $250 for $125. i walked past that stuff, and guess what was there, the stupid 150g cube again! still $500, cant believe noone else bought it. its calling me! lol

anywho, i got 2 yellow acro frags and a lime green zoa frag for $30. i also stole the blue moon zoas from my other 55g and put them in

If it's still there next weekend, you ought to see if you can do a deal on it! Knowing you as little as I do, I bet you could LOL. Current tank is coming along nicely!

sad thing is im going back to the store today, they had good stuff leftover i didnt check through. the odd thing is the light i thought would be $300 is only $80, a huge 20x40w fluorescent light.

that 150g cubes sittin there staring at me. its got all the plumbing for a sump and everything. they have all of the used cheap stuff outside like used lights and everything, and the tank inside. maybe if i put all of the used stuff in my car and say if they ever want to see their precious used lights and skimmers again, give me the 150g cube and noone gets hurt. lol

added a couple of corals from my other 55g, my pair of fuzzy toadstools and yellow button polyps. the fuzzies are huge and ive had them for about a year, they were attached when i got them but split. they were in too much shade in my other tank and i figured if i had to move it may as well transfer it. the yellow buttons were plain not liking my other tank (probably the halides), but under the power compacts theyre happy again. the scooter blenny is having the time of his life crawling in the yellow button polyps.

now if only my mantis and LR would hurry up
