I just set up a new 80 gallon. I currently have 1 adult female JD and 1 jouvenile JD (not sure on the sex). Would it be alright to add, say a Flowerhorn or Midas? [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I would not recommend adding any fish that big. It is only and 80g tank. You could probably add some smaller cichlids, but stay away from the 12"+ group.

Would the JD's beat up on the smaller Cichlids? How big is the average Red Devil?

You could always keep the JD's as centerpiece fish and add some Tiger Barbs, catfish or pleco.
JD's get really aggressive but you could put a single convict and a single firemouth I bet.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go to my lfs and pick out somthing. I just want somthing that won't hide all day and has a pretty colour. I really want a Red Devilor Flowerhorn, however I don't want to overcrowd my tank. Can I have 3 10inch fish in a 80 gallon?

Big cichlids need lots of room. They eat meaty food that pollutes your tank much quicker. You could add another big fish, but there is a large possibility that they are NOT going to get along and you are going to end up returning one or more of your fish.

I think Red devils get 14inches. If you have good filtration you could add an Oscar. But if the JD's pair up and are like other large cichlids they will kill everything in the tank. So be careful about that.
P.S. Flowerhorns are extremely aggresive and need a tank to themselves.
