The essay was suppose to be about a hero but I really don't have any that are super big so I used Ken Nedimyer. I made a 98 on this and it was rated a 4 and I thought it was descent and worth sharing.... Here it is!

When most people think of heroes they think of superman or spiderman. Although they make great heroes, an actual hero does not have to actually save someone from near death. My Hero is someone not well known although what he does everyone enjoys. His name is Ken Nedimyer. Ken is a Marine researcher and works to recreate the coral reefs. He is helpful, kind, and he has done so much for everyone.

Ken has been extremely helpful to me for planing my future. After I graduate I plan to go to school to be a Marine Zoologist and Ken has taken the time to email me about the occupation. He has told me of several schools for my specialty with is own included. He plans to try and help me get into one of these competitive schools after I achieve my bachelors in science.

The second thing about him is he is just kind. He takes the time apart to answer my questions no matter how many I have. I keep saltwater aquariums and have ordered livestock from him on several occasions and he always sends me more than what I pay for. Besides being kind to just me, he is kind to the environment. He sets his own rock at the bottom of the ocean to harvest for live rock instead of tearing apart reefs. Many of the corals he harvest are grown in his facility which helps in preventing the harvest of wild corals from reefs.

My last point is he has been helpful to everyone. You wonder how and the reason is I am sure you appreciate the beauty of the coral reefs. These reefs are dying out and due to harvesting for aquarium trade and pollution. Ken goes and replenishes dying reefs by seeding new corals and trying to solve the problem. Also many reefs, such as the Fiji reef, die because the people there harvest the reef for the rock and livestock. Ken seeds rock that he places in the ocean to satisfy the demand of aquarium enthusiast and helps save reefs.

All in all Ken is my hero because of the fact he has been so helpful to me and my future. I would like to be a lot like him and known for the things he does which is save the natural beauty of the coral reefs. Ken is an inspiration to us all and many don't even know it.

Awesome! When you graduating? It would be super cool for like several of us younger people on here to end up working together.

I haven't yet began the journey through college, but all I know is that I want to go to OSU & live in Newport OR. That would be great if, when some young ac members graduated, we could work together as old friends. I wish you luck in school, and I'll have to look you up/contact you here if ac is still around, once I graduate.

Very good Kuli

However, I wouldn't call it an 'essay', more like a piece of prose. Essays are generally an analysis of a particular topic/subject.

Nice work Kuli! Good to see that some young people put a bit more thought into who is a hero than just who plays sport or acts well!!
Keep working towards your dream, don't take no for an answer and you never know, in 30 years you may be inspiring the next generation :D

That is my goal, I want people to look at me like I look at Ken. Although a few things lately may try and set me off course.:1luvu:

as we are on the subject of graduation, I am also 17 and will be graduating HS in about 10-12 weeks.

I was planning to be a marine biologist, however, I will be following my father's footsteps and will be studying commerce instead

Auckland University has one of the top marine biology schools. Also, where in the world can you get somewhere like Goat Island
