Senegals are great. Sexing is based on the anal fin. The males have a larger more muscular anal fin while the females' is smaller and thinner. Based on that pic it is a little broader than I would expect on a female, but it does not seem to have a very muscular base on it. A better pic would help.

What size tank is this?
What are you feeding it?

tank size 125g
feeding as recommend by lfs frozen bloodworm, tubifex, pellet, krill, shrimp, earthworms,
so a better pic of its back end?

I would focus more on high quality pellets if it is taking them and ditch the other stuff. High quality sinking pellets like New Life Spectrum and Hikari would be better than the current diet.

Yes, a better shot of the anal fin from the side would help for sexing.

they are cool...............he survived the first night with the oscars and now there not bothered completly he swims freely around the top of the tank goes to the bottom and then dive bombs the wood and i even put my old big boat decor in so he had somewhere to hide........but prefers the wood:19:

He needs to gulp air to live so make sure whatever tank he is in the lid is secure but also there is room for him to breach.:18:

The farm raised babies are common you can buy em for about 6.99 The bigger ones and the less common ones go for a pretty penny though.

3 of them, farm raised Senegals. They are cute one of them ate his first fry the other day. I love the way they use their fins like legs. They are truly interesting species.

Tic & Tac They are unusual color for senegals so I brought them. Maybe as they get older they will turn normal I don't know.

Old thread, but not true. You can start to tell at about 3-4". I found a pic of one of mine on another site being used as a reference for sexing them and HE was only about 4" when the pic was taken.

Another old thread. Chris, I had the same problem when I started. Try clicking "new posts" in the toolbar on the top of the forum. This takes you right to the newer posts of the day and you can dive right in from there.
