Ive got a 30 gal freshwater tank with some barbs, tetras, an angel, a pleco and some shrimp. The bottom dwellers currently have some rocks and decorations to hide under, but I want to expand their cover. I was wondering if I used a large piece of broken glass to expand their lair could the sharp edges be harmful to them? (I worry about the pleco mostly)

Ah yes I a little about myself. I am graduating UW-Madison with a Biology BS in May. I enjoy playing guitar, skiing and beer. And staring at my tank.

Happy Holidays, Jim

hi. welcome to a.c. yes. you should avoid sharp edges as these can damage your inhabitants. bogwood/ driftwood provides great cover for all fish. you could also use clay flower pots or pvc pipe, more rocks, floating plants (live or plastic) will also provide ample cover. for any more questions you may have this is a great place to ask them. --jeff :thumb:

Welcome to the forum. If you want a good idea on how to use pvc Hobbs has a nice post in the diy. Just take some aquarium safe sylicon and glue some of the stones from your tank onto it.

Welcome to AC.

Watch that you put nothing to hide in fish could get stuck in. The hole in the bottom of clay pots might concern me as those fish grow. They hide well right in plants, under driftwood, etc.
