Has anyone ever had a killifish that breathed through the mouth alot? One of my golden wonders has this habit, and i don't understand what its doing. My wife worries about it. I'm not as worried because it feeds vigorously, and is verry active. It does seem fat. Lately it has been hanging out right under the intake for the filter, but is not stuck to it, can sit there in the siphon for a few minutes and swim away whenever it wants. Btw it was great today, I got 12 feeder guppies and threw them in the 38 gallon... It was a feeding frenzy!!! The angelfish had a couple, the killis went nuts on them and I think my Boesmanis even got in on the action. The Balas seemed indifferent, and the Silver Dollar was bein a fraidy cat...:hmm3grin2orange:
Not sure about the killi but, feeding feeder guppys is a really bad form of food, it not only makes them secepteble to disease, but it is also not very nurtitouse I believe.

what is your view on earthworms? I have used them before, and personally see them as being more problematic than a feeder guppy, but are still good good as a diet supplement as well as the psychological effect of giving the fish something to "hunt".

If it's breathing through its mouth a lot and hanging out near the intake of the filter (or maybe hes trying to hide?), maybe there isn't enough circulation for him.
As far as food goes, they'll eat just about anything. I feed mine canned crickets and semi-floating granules. I just bought a bag of small floating cichlid pellets specifically for them, though I haven't started giving it to them yet.
