In your case, the best way would be to use some floating plants like I have - see attached pic. I even have angels in the tank, and some fry are escaping from being eaten, just hiding in the plants.

Hi,
The plants work great. I used to use them too and had a good survival rate for fry.
They also have very cheap mini-tanks designed especially for this purpose.
They just hang on the side of your tank and you put the pregnant female in there. When they have fry, they drop to the bottom compartment of the little holding area and even the parent fish cannot get them.
Either way...

Can you tell me what plants are those? thanks.

You could set up your main tank so the fry can hide, of you can separate the female to another tank to give birth, then move them back.

I kept my male guppies in a 33g "show tank", the females in 2 10g's, and the fry in 5g's till you could sex them.

These are Ceratopteris, or Watersprite; They grow very fast, I mean VERY fast, in any light, no special conditions needed. You could also use Water Lettuce, and there are some other plants that can grow floating.
To stop them to float around all the tank, I use to fix one of the plantlets to the glass wall using a suction cup; the rest of the plants will cling to each other.
If you don't want to breed the guppies and just want to have some fries, you don't really need a breeder, just this bunch of plants for the babies to hide in, not to be eaten by parents or other fish.

I actually have about 15 guppy fry that i got from PetSmart a month or two ago. They are all looking great now. When they were very young i would feed them yolk from a hard boiled egg ( ask if you need more info) and they did very well on that until i was able to give them finely crushed flake. They are in a 10gal as a grow out tank. They are large enough now to be housed with other fish, i might just leave them in the 10 gal.

i used to buy pregant livebearers and then they would have the babies in the tank...very interesting to watch them....one time i brought one female that was loaded with babies....and she had the babies in the plastic bag while i got her home i noticed it. . lol i saved most of them from momma . . some beautiful fish to have reproduce in the tank are mollies , swordtails , and i loved the fancy guppies :thumb:

How can you know when (or at least near it) the guppy is going to have babies? I got a tank (20 gal.) and sometimes we found on it babies. And as I wanted to breed them I need to know this so I can put them on a breeder. Thanks for your help...

The only real way to know for sure is if you know when they got pregnant. It's usually 3-4 weeks. The females tend to get slower and have "stringy" poo when they are ready to give birth. The female can also retain the fry if they are stressed, so sometimes contain them can make it take longer for them to give birth.

I never bothered to separate the females to have their, I just gave them their own tank from the beginning and put a male in every once and a while for a visit.

you can tell when the guppy is preggos when you see her belly blackened and swollen..thats the baby fry inside .. . .its funny tho . . they call the guppy the millions fish ...cuz pretty soon your tank will be filled with them they are not hard to breed! you will have tons of babies.....just you wait lol just remember to provide thick plantation for the fry to hide in as momma would love to eat them . . .which might not be a bad idea either. . they do reproduce like crazy :hmm3grin2orange:
