I wrote a couple of days ago about my molly with a curved spine. I have since separated her and the curve is definitely an "s" and is getting more and more apparent. Any advise on whether to euthanize this one or try various treatments? I am assuming that if it is genetic the anti-parasite stuff, etc. wont work. So would you put her down or treat her?

Thanks!

With the cost of a brand new, healthy molly no more than $2 and medications (that probably won't work) more than that, the choice would be an easy one for me. Livebearers are a dime a dozen and altho we naturally hate to loose one, it's not like losing a prized cichlid we're had for many years and has personality galore.

Your molly sounds to have TB. I hope not as it's contagious to all the fish that were in the tank with it. I would buy no more fish at this time and watch the others in the tank for a while to make sure they are healthy before adding to your stock.

I agree with Lady Hobbs...if she is that size and only now getting deformations...it probably IS tb....sorry...

ok - I hate to do it. but i agree she's not worth the risk. The spine deformity has become noticiable only as she has aged (along with the long fins). Is It possible that the tank is not infected? Would a uv sterilizer treat the tank or should I take more drastic measures there too?
