Black algae

what are some of the ways you guys got rid of black algae?
should i soak it in bleach or medicate it somehow? there is a lot of it in one of the tanks.

two of the fish that will eat black algae are flying foxes and ottos. also, is this tank planted? if so, black algae will kill live plants! what stage is the black algae in? is it little dots? is is slimy, carpets of it?

I believe I read that brown/black algae is from not enough water changes. Perhaps you need to give it a good cleaning? I would not bleach anything in the tank but scrub it with de-clorinated water, clean the water, wipe the glass down, etc.

carpets of it and this friends tank has no more live plants since about year.

i would try cleaning the tank as hobbs stated. let us know how you made out with it because if that doesn't work out we can take further steps.--jeff:ezpi_wink1:

you should tell him the water needs to be changed regularly and the tank maintained.

i tried he doesn't listen i'll just handle it and get it back on the right track.
