What size tank is he/she in and how much established (in your tank longer than 6 months) live rock is there?
iv'e got a 10g refugium to harvest food and i already have it eating brine shrimp without enhancement(i am hoping this is great because if i dont need to enhance the shrimp i can turn it into a treat as well)
my tank is about 7months(the one he's in) definetly has live rock, it's funny because the top of the cave he loves a lot is super pourous and contains about 2 populations of copepods by itself i read they can wipe out a population of them in a tank but if i could get a close up you would see there are a lot of them and i swap sand once a week from the 10g to the 30g to add even more just to be safe they breed like heck in the 10g(that's why ther is nothin else in there)

don't under estimate the mandarin's eating capabilities...
How many Lbs of live rock do you have. I would not go below 80lbs of LR for one mandarin
about 70 pounds but i think it should be fine since this one rock i have is redicoulous and i'm not really worried about feeding anymore, you can buy live copepods

Have you checked the price of the bottles of pods? You'll pay more for one of those than you paid for the fish in most places. You need to remember that no matter how much brine he may take, it is only supplemental, without a ver large constant supply of live pods a mandarin will starve.
:14: LOL not worried about the price can get them for free or cheap from friend at LFS even place him in a more established tank the 10g is full of breeding i'm pretty sure there wont be that kinda problem with food i was just wondering if there was something besides this that i might wanna watch out for that i may have slipped up on. it seems like this is the most worries for most aquarist with this fish though
i dont make moves i cant handle
