Hello everyone!

Well, it seems that the female platy that I got about a month ago is afraid of me... She is hiding all the time and only comes out to eat. For some time I thought whe was feeling a bit sick, but now I have realized that she's actually hiding from me! When I am not close by, she is happily swimming round, socializing... but as soon as I come close to say hi, she immediately goes hide behind a rock.... I must be really ugly! :27: :hmm3grin2orange:

Seriously, though, do you think the stress from seeing me might alter her health? Should I just not come close to the tank at all and let her be in peace? Do you think she'll eventually accept me?

You make this sound like the teenage boy longing after the prom queen...[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Some fish get over the fact of some big hairless ape staring at them some don't you will just have to wait and see....

LOL. Try wearing a disguise. . . . or if for some strange reason that dosn't work. . . .
How many platies do you have cos if you have bout 3 or more they tend to get a bit more confident.

I find some fish just take a bit longer to get used to a person...

Have you tried approaching the tank slowly? If you're walking up normally, it might be the movement scaring her. If you move very slowly closer she might be OK... some of my fish will dart away if I walk up to the tank normally, but if I sit still for long enough (even right next to the tank) they'll come out again...

Your looks, whatever they may be, don't really come into play.

If Godzilla came tapping on your window, would you go hide in the basement? :hmm3grin2orange:

Approach slowly and don't make any quick movements. Also try to run your finger along the glass, she should follow it around. Give her a while to get used to you and try to stick around at feeding time, she'll eventually get used to you.

Thanks for the replies, you guys!

This thread is actually a couple of weeks old. In these two weeks, she has gotten much more confident. Currently, I have three platies (plus some fry) and they all are doing great. The one that was hiding from me is totally fine now. I guess she just needed some time...

Thanks!

Well what I can tell you? Nothing! It's fish, it's not a cat, who can understand you.

Let it be like this, it depends on fish, they also have characters like we, people.

Nothing unusal about that. I have one platy that I seldom see unless I rip the tank apart. He'd be out and about if he had friends.
