I just recently purchased a new house and i'm beginning to plan a 125 gallon tank. In my previous residence, i had a 20 gallong and a 55 gallon tank. About a month before i moved out, i lost almost every fish in both tanks. I'm not exactly sure why (I think it was the introduction of some diseased fish), but I definitely want to avoid that type of loss again! Those being my first two tanks, i definitely learned a fair amount of information on fish keeping, but by no means do i considder myself an expert.

So now that I have that little bit of history out of the way, here is what i'm planning. Please feel free to give me any feed back positive or negative about my plans.

As stated, i'm going to go with a 125 gallon tank. I would prefer to run an overflow set up into a filter aparatus hidden in a 20 or 30 gallon tank in the cabinet below. I like the idea of having everything hidden and the increased water capacity. I have never run a set up like this before and i'm still trying to find information about these types of filters; suggestions would be great in regards to CO2, filter aparatus, and UV! I definitely want living plants in the tank, but i would like to keep the tank looking bright and try to avoid the heavily planted approach. As far as fish, I love sharks and neon tetras...those two are a must in my tanks.

Right now, my biggest concern is the filter set up. My local store seems to want to sell me an extremely expensive set up. I'm not afraid to spend the money to do it right the first time, but i don't want to be buying things that aren't necessary. Again, i'm pretty much clueless in this area, so any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help!!!

I will leave the techie stuff to those that know more about it. All I use is HOTB filters but my largest tank is only 55 gallons, too.

Planning ahead is also very good for setting that tank up as to where you wish it will remain forever! LOL If you even think you may be adding tanks, make sure you give yourself the room. Moving them is NOT fun. On this issue, I am an expert!! :) My tanks have been moved time and again to make room for additions.

You will just love that big tank and I am sooo jealous. The other tanks you have will make great breeder or quarantine tanks. It's always good to quarantine fish before adding to your stock to make sure they harbor no disease.

Good luck and enjoy!
