Recently I've been doing water changes (about 30 gallons) for my 75 gallon once, or twice a week since my fish have been sick. The past few days I noticed the tank looking really cloudy, but it wasn't the water. There's a thin layer of slimy, slippery algae or whatever it may be around the inside of my tank on the glass. I've been using Melafix, Pimafix, and Quick Cure for their medication. Can this have something to do with the slime? Is this normal? Has anyone experienced it? and is there a way to get rid of this stuff? Thank you all so much. :22:

is the tank in direct sunlight? does your tapwater have excess phosphates that could be causing it?

The tank is in between 2 windows...one on the wall next to it, and one on the same wall the tank is on. The sun never directly hits it though. Is there a way to test for phosphates? I appreciate the quick reply.

yep, you can test phosphates, theres tests for them. you could also just add a phosphate pad in your filter, its only a few bucks and it absorbs the phosphates

Oh ok, that's good. Would this be the only thing causing it?

probably, i'd put a good bet on that being the cause. only other thing could be your lighting, what lighting do you have?

One more thing :ssmile: is this harmful to the fish at all, and does it need to be treated right away?

How is your fish holding up? I think Melafix and Pimafix (since they are plant oils) can lead to a light slime coat on hard surfaces, but I've never had a problem just wiping it off, so I'm not sure if that's what your describing.

Thank you for asking:11: They seem to be doing ok, my Oscar's fins do look better. Those meds could be the cause, I'll attempt wiping it off.
