View Full Version : Marine Salt proportions?

Hi,
I will be moving to college on the 20th, and found out that my dorm DOES allow pets, but only aquatic ones with 10G or smaller tanks. This is good - I can bring my fiddlers with! Now, the problem is that my tank was 25g.

So I went out and bought a 7g reptile tank for my 2 fiddlers (1 male, 1 female - I may buy another female just to make everything run as smoothly as possible), and I wanted to start fresh with everything, including new water. The problem is that I forgot the approximate proportion of marine salt to water for a brackish tank... can someone help me? I know I should have a hydrometer, but I'm talking just for starters.

Thanks!

I know, but is there a "typical" amount you can suggest to start out with?

backish is about 1.011-1.018, and to get a salinity of about 1.025 you need half a cup of salt per gallon, so i guess a extremely extremely rough estimate is a quarter of a cup of salt per gallon

Alright, thanks! That's what I was looking for!
