sounds like some kind of fungus, what size is your tank? do you have a heater? do you have a filter? what tankmates does he have? what are your water parameters?

parameters are ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. for starters, i would isolate him and treat for the fungus

Okay Mollies kept in straight fresh water are prone to fungus the black ones real bad.... If mollies are all you have I would recommend puting about 1 heaping tablespoon of aquarium salt or sea salt in the tank per 5 gallons of water. It will help the mollies feel better and keep the fungus at bay.

For right now though you need to get a funguscide in there stat and then get the tank balanced...

Also crank that temp up to 82 it helps stop the shimmies which mollies get sometimes.

Why the black ones?

Why the black ones?

Don't really know but more than likely it has to do with the breeding process to get a solid black molley. As fish, animals, and humans if you live in Arkansas are inbreed to get a certain trait other weaknesses appear in black mollies it is the shimies and fungus....

What. prey tell, esteemed member Sounguru...are sheemies??

And yes...up your water temp a little and if the tank only has livebearers...add some aquarium salt..it does wonders...also do some water changes...

If it's not fungus, it might be Columnaris, which is bacterial.
