Sorry I havnt been on guys, the forign exchange student that my neighbors are taking in, arrived early on friday, but ill get into that later anywho.

You know you spend too much time on the AC when you have this dream-

I dreamed I was driving on the wrong side of the hiway to get to some camp. I finally got there after a lot of scary moments playing frogger on the hiway lol. Anyways, I get to the cabins, unpack my stuff, and go to bed even though it is eight in the morning. I woke up the next morning and went into a meeting room, and looked at the buliten board, and I remember reading it exactly as this-

Leader- Lady Hobbs
Group Name- Aquatic comminity (AC)
Accoplishment- Teaching fish to talk
Meeting dates- (cant remeber)

Then I woke up... What the heck lol, I obviously spend every minute thinking about it lol, I dunno I just though ti was really really weird lol.

For the forign exchange student. His name is Yuito (You-eat-Oh) and he is from japan. He is really, nice, but dosnt know much english. I showed him the fish tanks, and he said he had two twenty gallons at home. It was pretty cool. I asked what the biggest difference beetween japan and america was, and he said japan was muggy and humid, so I asked what else was differnt, and he said people in america eat way way way more then in japan lol :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: I loved it lol. Anyways, I also asked what his room was like and he said he slept on a tsunaoi Mat in the family room. I was like wow, I asked how big his house was and he said, one bedroom one bathroom. I also asked if he had a swimming pool, he said that his back yard was only around 4x4 feet!!! It was crazy but thats not all. He is stayiing for a year, and will be going to high school here. I told him we start at seven, and he said wow thats early, and then I said yes but we get out at two. He about died. He didnt believe me! He said in japan he goes to school at eight in the morning and gets out at seven!!! Holy crud!!! I could never do that! He also said that he has july off for summer break, and that was it! Wow, japan is a lot differnt then here. But anyways, he is really really cool! Dunno just felt like sharing, it really made me appreciate how I live!

Anyways, sorry to waste any time

Mike

I'm excited for you with this new neighbor. I hope you 2 become friends. Help him and be kind if you can. (I have been in his shoes before- it's scary!) Don't worry, the more you talk with him, the better his English will get!

You can make a lifelong friendship (I did). And, you'll always have a place to stay in Japan. (Where I would luuuuuuuv to go myself.) :18:

Ok Im back lol. Well the big mac was pretty good I guess, most definetly different lol. He had been to Mcdonalds in japan, but there menu is really really really differnt form here. They have suhshi, and sashimi over there, and here its basicly beef lol. Anyways, I asked if he had ever had coffee, and he said no, so I bought him one. I think he was nervous because he wated till the very end to drink it. When he finally did his face went from normal, to, oh my gosh, I think I just drank sionide lol. He was like, this is not sweet lol, I think he expected it to be like tea. Anyways, he kept drinking it because he didnt want me to feel bad, and I told him to stop but he insisted lol. After McDonalds, I showed him the high school, and we went to my lfs. Then I asked him about earthquakies, and he said that there was a 4.8 the day before he left, and that they had one almost once every two weeks! Thats crazy, he also said that they have around four typhoons a year, and things of that nature. I asked how he got to school, and he said he rode his bike for an hour, because his school is 15 miles away! It was crazy! Anyways, he also tought me some japaneese, as I taught him german, and this is what I learned its pretty neat-

Kanichiwa- Hello
Komi ah hasai- How are you
Domo comari hassan- Rice please
so-so - Ok
Breciet- Good
and finally
Me sansai cari anayo- Sorry.

It was awesome lol.
The best part of it all tho was when I went and got him from my neighbors house. He didnt know how to lock the door from the inside, so he took his key, and attempted to lock the top and bottom lock from the outside lol, so I showed him how to do it, and he had to make sure I was right lol. Oh wow what a day, it was a lot of fun though. He had said that people in america have a lot of common sense, and a sense of humor, as people from japan do not lol. Oh wow what a fun day lol.

I'm so glad you had a nice day!! It sounds like you had a lot of fun. And I'm sure he appreciates your friendship. It was nice of you to take him to so many places.

He probably has culture shock!

What's next on your agenda?

Ryuu

Lol yeah culture shock sums it up lol. Anyways, Im probably going to learn as much japaneese in the next month as I can, and before the summers over, I want to take him to the zoo, and maybe cedar point or michigan adventrues, to be honest, he is the only friend that I have that is a boy lol, most of my friends are girls, and its kind of nice to have someone who kind of understands lol.

Oh and I forgot one more thing

Guda Kasi Ma- is a familiar way of saying whats up

Very interesting!

I'm assuming he must live in a very rural part of Japan to ride so far to school on a bike. That's an interesting dialect as well. Gotta tell you though, I barely recognize any of it, at least how it's being typed here. I lived in Japan for nearly 8yrs, and studied the spoken and two of the three written languages.

There are some rural dialects which sound near-foreign to 'standard japanese' speakers (I recall on a Tokyo television show they were interviewing a farmer and they needed subtitles to understand him). You might be learning some unconventional nihon-go (japanese) there. :hmm3grin2orange:

The McDonald's menu's must be considerably different in the rural areas than in the major population centers. I've been to many of the large cities over there and the menu's were near identical to ours (Big Macs, double-cheeseburgers, etc...no quarter-pounders though). Burgers are quite popular over there.

Lol, yeah, im 100% if what I typed is what it really was, lol, it all sounds kind of the same to me lol, and yes he did live in a rural part, I forgot where though it started with an S. Not sure what type of lingo that was tho. I need your opinons though, do you think this book will help?

Hard for me to say, I've never used or studied from that particular book (though I am wary of books which advertise effortless or speed studying). I learned from native speakers and you have the opportunity to do the same with the exchange student. Hearing first-hand how the language 'sounds' is a tremendous benefit.

I'm glad that y'all had such a great time!!! :19: Sounds like if this keeps up, y'all will become great friends!!

And yeah, I wouldn't buy the book either... If he is from a more rural part, then it may be a different dialect. My mom is Filipina and she speaks, basically, 3 languages... her island dialect, basic Tagalog, as well as English. May be similar in Japan....

BTW is that Cedar Point in Ohio?? If so I absolutely love it there, but have not been in such a long time!! I rode my first rollercoaster there, the corkscrew.... wonder if that one is still there. My relatives all live in Ohio and we used to go there every year!

LOLOL Gee, Thanks. My biggest job in life is remembering to watch The Guiding Light at 3 PM.

OK....talk about dreams! I dreamed my blood parrots were birds the other night and they were absolutely darling! I would whistle at them and they'd come flying over to me and sit on my shoulder and used the doggie door to go outside.

They were so darned cute as birds I was almost disappointed when I woke up.

damn.....I'm glad to finally find out that I;m not the only one with fishy dreams.....I was starting to get worried about myself......

Lol I dream about fish atleast twice a week lol, my weirdest one was probably-

I was dreaming that I had woke up, and I looked into the fish tank, but I seen no fish!!! So I was like what the heck! Then one came swiming around me, and they all started swimming around me, so I was underwater, then, it was weird, I seen all my posetions deteriorate from the water, the bed sunk, and the sheets were decaying, the bunkbed rusted and fell, the fish tank slowly cracked and broke, and then at the end I drowned. It was kind of weird

BTW Cedar point is in ohio, and yes lol there is the corkscrew, that was also my first roller coaster.
