This weekend, I bought a 1G tank and when we arrived home, I cleaned the tank nicely for Gem.

I then took Roger (Gem's favorite pet) and put him in the new tank with his old water. I topped it up with fresh treated water. He looked very happy with the bigger size tank to begin with. Later on Gem mentioned to me that Roger is sulking, well I thought he is just missing his old bowl.
We left for the shops and when we returned, Gem called me and I saw Roger at the bottom of his new tank......mouth wide open and dead.

I really felt like a dog because I was the one that placed him in his new tank and now Gem lost her favorite fish.

I wonder what was the cause of his death?

Needless to say that tank will now become a pot for a plant.

Gemstone, I am sorry about our fishy.......:cwmboom2:

Sounds like ammonia shock to me, Boertjie. The nitrafying bacteria are on solid surfaces, not in the water, I'm sorry to say.

Thanks Dave,
Will the Ammonia kill him that fast? It was a question of about 2 hours that he was in the tank and we did put some of his rocks and plants in the new tank.

Ammonia is the most toxic natural organic substance there is, fish-wise, so the speed of death strongly indicates Ammonia shock. It burned the fish's gills, suffocating him.

So sorry to hear about Roger. Your heart was in the right place Boertjie. Gem has a big forgiving heart and she knows it was an accident.
