Hi,

I need help! I scratched my small 5 gallon tank. I think I did it by not completely submerging my algae brush completely before cleaning the tank....

So I went to the Fish Store and bought an acrylic scratch remover kit. I followed the directions (horizontal on the first grade, vertical on the second grade, back to horizontal etc.) The scratch itself is gone, but now instead of that one scratch, I have a whole portion of the acrylic that you can see many fine scratches, and it just generally looks cloudy.

What did I do wrong??

Thanks for any help....

Eric

did you clean the acrylic first?? There was possibly sand on the outside or grit and you scratched it up. Buy a glass 10g tank for 15 bucks, since the acryllic one is scratched bad. Glass is generally better.

The down fall of acrylic. And the price. I agree with cocoa. Get yourself a glass tank and keep this one for a hospital tank.

Sure do. Nice to quaranteen those guys for awhile before putting in the tank with the others.

Was it really acrylic? Or was it plastic? There is a difference. If you have acrylic scratches below the water line won't generally be noticeable.

Someone told me a long time ago that you can use toothpaste to kind of buff out fine scratches. I don't remember if that was for acrylic or glass though.

Just tonight, I noticed 2 platies with a very tiny white spot on their tails. Barely even noticeable but it's something that's usually not there. In that quaranteen tank they went with fungal meds.

Two days ago I saw a red spot on my bala's mouth. I thought he had injured his mouth from forging in the gravel but today it looks worse so in the tank he went along with the platies.

Where does this stuff come from when you keep a perfectly clean tank and do everything you should do? grrrr!

But having this quaranteen tank is very handy indeed.

iv'e learned that lots of fish hold problems that don't show (kind of like HIV/Aids)no offense but ..they can keep them and we'll never know. Ive got a green terror in the past from a friend and he was perfectly fine than caught a disease but then later on in my 'perfect' tank he got some kind of illness in his stomach and all the other fish were still perfect, and even better.
