thank you both. the keyholes are "hanging out" with him almost instantly. i only got one krib as i've never kept them before. i want to monitor how he gets along with the others before i get more. if i do get more, i will keep them all males. for some reason the females can be very aggressive. plus i don't want them to breed because they will kill and maim my other fish. i'm still so psyched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hobbs--i'm am extremely pleased with how they look in my tank! i highly recommend this species to anyone.

One of those? Never. Nearly all fish want their friends. Gotta get more than one.

The Keyhole and Kribs are supposed to be compatible with swordtails and Chromide cichlids, too. And lots of tetra's. Chromide only get 3 inches.

I don't think it a good idea to get more males IMO. They need their own territory and when I had 6 males they fought endlessly (I bought 8 juveniles to get a mixed group, so I would have a pair in the end). As soon as 2 paired off the other males went straight back to the store. That was in the 55g as well, so they had plenty of space.

what about just one more male krib? i was hoping you would post on this issue abbeysmom. thanks

You could....But then you have 1 REALLY nice looking healthy Krib, and 1 male crib that hides all the time. The only success I had was when you have a male and female, and even then I was having to separate them because the female would attack the male after spawning. If you have a clear territory divider in the middle of your tank, plenty of hiding spots (fake plants and whatnot) you might be able to get away with 2 males. Every once is a while it does work out. With no females, they may be less aggressive. If you have a store that will trade fish when things don't work out you could give it a try.

I have been known to pick the "idiot" fish. I always end up with "the killer angel" of the Oscar that won't eat live food. I even had a pleco (male) that would viciously attack ME when I cleaned the tank.

sorry hobbs. looks like i'm sticking with one krib. lol
but, as i stated earlier, my keyholes keep him company anyway.

it's a mixture of both. they're active and then they chill and so on and so on!

jman

that's alright because normally i go to fish stores and since the fish don't really have place to hide they just all are active!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Hopefully he'll settle down in his new family well, usually they hide for a while so make sure you've got places for him to "chill out". Now I just have to find a home for all my babies!!!

I am glad to see people interested in the krib. I have a male and female Krib that have laid eggs and just 2 days ago they hatched. This is the second time they've spawned. First time didnt go so well. Anyway the supply here in Pennsylvania is plentifull. My fish store must have a local breeder. Every fish store should carry the Krib. Hope you have luck with yours. Ill have pictures later

well, i've had my krib for about 3 weeks or so. his colors really came out now that he's in a good tank and not the 10 gallon tank at the lfs.

Nice looking kribs.....congrats on your purchase. I had a pair once, bought as an older pair and although they tried to spawn the eggs were never any good or ma ate them. When I lost Ma, Pa was a much nicer krib in the tank, but never as brightly colored as when he had his wife. Here they are

angle your camera up or down in relation to the glass on your tank so you won't get flashback in your pics

cocoa_pleco

They had them mixed sexes in a tank with angels and another type of cichlid. I dunno why they put them with angels. Kribs only bug slow fish apparently:1:
