I posted about my fish having ICK and anchor worm but the last fish I got from petsmart had to be theones that brought in the anchor worm, so after all the bad advice and everything thats happen re petsmart I called and complained. They are completely taking care of everything for me. Now that means I still have to treat the tank myself but they are giving all meds needs and everything I need to take care of this. I just wanted to share with all you that atleast they are taking care of it.

I think it varies from area to area and store to store, but personally I'll never buy any Petsmart fish again, after an unfortunate bout with a sneaky fungus that many of their fish are infected with wiped out most of my community tank.
The thing that gets me isn't that they have sick fish (every fish store has some sick fish from time to time), but that they knowingly sell fish that they know aren't healthy. I know they do this because, after that fungus incident, I watched the kissing gourami tank where the fungus originated from for a couple of weeks. They remove the dead and dying fish every couple of days, then treat the water with massive amounts of that blue anti-ick treatment (even after I told them it wasn't ick, but a fungus), then throw in the new fish. Those fish only stay healthy looking for a couple of days (while they try and sell as many as they can), before they too would succumb to the fungus. Down the toilet they would go, and more healthy but ultimately doomed fish would go in the tank. The worst part was that the employee that I talked to seemed to indicate that this has been going on for several months, with several fish dying per day. Of course, this employee seemed unconcerned about actually telling anyone about this before they bought one of these sick and highly contagious fish and took it home with them. No "quarantine" sign, no nothing... just keep moving that product.... what a disgrace. :c11:

Some stores quarantine their fish for a while before they even sell them but most can't afford to keep stock around like that when they have more coming in another week. Many stores have salt in their tanks but if the fish is only in there for a day or two before being sold, the salt has no time to work.
That's why it's our job to do the treatment and quarantining when necessary and not introduce them to our stock for a 2-3 weeks.
In a perfect world, no fish would be sold that had anything wrong with it but hundreds of these fish a shipped daily (mostly from fish farms) and these stores want them gone and sold. They have hundreds of fish to look after and we might buy 3 or 4.

I know and I have now learned my lesson I hard one at that. I have had bad fish meaning that didnt get along with the others but never thought anything like this could or would happen. I know now not to add any fish to my tank until they show no signs of illness but that will be awhile because now I have all this to deal with for awhile. So I am just happy they are willing to help fix this big problem they have made

I just wish that Petsmart employees (again, this is only in reference to our local one, yours may be different) would view their fish like they view cats and dogs. Not "stock", not "product", but animals. Animals who are dying (probably hundreds since this particular tank became infected) for no good reason, other than laziness.
In other words, do you suppose that Petsmart employees would see it as "no big deal" if one or two cats and dogs a day died in their cages? If their dogs were infected with a serious contagious disease that not only threatened that animal's life, but the lives of every animal it was exposed to, would they simply shrug and do nothing?

Agreed, and when it comes down to it, it's my fault that the fungus killed my other fish (I was very new to the hobby, and didn't yet have an acclimation / quarantine tank). Again, it's not so much that they sold me sick fish, but that they continue to knowingly do so after several months and what must be several hundred or thousand dead fish, apparently without so much as a second thought that these are dying animals, not "stock" or "product" taking up warehouse space.

Correction, YOU may buy 3 or 4. I will buy 0, instead spending my money in a store that cares about the livestock they sell beyond the numbers on a balance sheet.

I too wish that Petsmart (as well as other big chains) would take better care of their animals as well. Such a shame really, I don't even go into those places anymore, have searched and found other petstores to fill all of my animal's needs that take much better care of all of their animals, and treat them as individuals and living creatures and not just dollar signs.
But at least they are helping you in treating your fish, I hope that they get better soon!!
