i recently rescued some tadpoles from the roof of the shelter i work at cause its like a hundred years old, and the roof dips in so there was a pool of water on it. some of the other people where saying that there were tadpoles up there so i just had to check it out! the poor things were in absolutely nasty water that was at least 90F! so im up there tryin to rescue all these things sweating my butt off! but i ended getting about 16 all in diff stages. ive had them almost a week now and some are already lil froggies! they are soo cute! ive been tryin to give them pinheads, havent seem them eat any yet...i think i might have to try and find somewhere to get fruit flies. considering they were on the roof im pretty sure they are gray tree frogs, even though they're really green at the moment... any ways i needed to tell somebody that would actually care! cause im excited about them but no one else i know seems to be! i figured you guys might share in my excitement!they came at a perfect time too, as i was setting up a terrarium to get some froggies! well thats bout it for now i'll keep ya'll updated!:hmm3grin2orange:

Very cute little guys there!!:19: Good luck with them!!

They are so cute! Good for you for rescuing them- it must have been HOT up there! How many will you keep? What kind of home are you setting up for them?
btw, do you think they will make alot of noise? (ribbit, ribbit)
I know the ones where I grew up in Pennsylvania do!

well i have a 20gL tank that im making into a vivarium with waterfall, pond, fog the works i cant wait till its finished! i was going to get some dart frogs to put in it but if these guys make it i'll prob keep a couple and let the rest go, since they are native....i havent heard a peep from them yet although my clawed frog wont shut up!

Right now they can eat fish food. When they get a little further along wingless fruit flys will do.If you want them to do there best get some repti dust to coat them in for the xtra vitamins.
Oh wow that last one was awesome along with the rest!

Wow- a waterful. You must post a picture when it's finished. Is a vivarium alot of work?

yeah and no cause im kinda enjoying working on it, but it'll be worth it when im done! right now i just need to finish my layout style, get a pump, and i havent been able to find egg crate so i think im gonna use a mesh screen instead with more substrate layers, oh and some plants of course :) i'll post pics when i gain some progress. im still having trouble deciding on driftwood positions, ive bought soo many pieces then was like this would look better somewhere else...i can be such a perfectionist :)

Did you check out lowes or home depot for ege crate?Ask for light diffusing panels they will have no idea what you are talking about if you ask for egg crate. Its worth the search as it allows for a false bottom that cant be accomplished with just mesh.

False advertisement.Maybe they should be sold as "generally flightless fruitflys"!

lol right.... well i noticed a few of them can fly while most of them kinda just jump and crawl around....im just happy that theyre finally eating i was waiting forever to get the flys from my LFS, and they wouldnt touch the pinheads, i even lost a few:ssad: but the rest are fattening up nicely:grin34:

I dont know my frogs real well yet.We started with fire bellys then I got a clown and tiger leg tree frog next came a pair of whites.Im looking forward to having darts because of there being active during the day.If I want to see my other tree frogs I gotta stay up late and use a little red light!
KrytterKrys
08-02-2008, 05:09 AM
yeah that sucks, my lil guys seem to be pretty active all day and night so far! same with the clawed frog, although he def chirps more at night...like his is right now:hmm3grin2orange:
where did you find the black silicon for your tank?
smaug
08-02-2008, 05:21 AM
Lowes. Many give the info to not use the type with mold resistance but i did because I have never seen pure silicon that is black.Brown also does a good job, with the use of either just make sure you let it cure for at least a full day before adding frogs.I have a photo album on this site that shows how I made my viv.Don't make the mistakes I did,if you are using a pump and a false bottom make sure you have EASY access to the pump and the water for easier water changes.I just went through heck today redoing my viv because it was too wet,I had mold growing and dead crickets in the water and my pump needed adjusted for better waterflow.I added plastic over my eggcrate and under my dirt to hopefully abate so much wetness.

ooo that had to suck, i was thinking of doing a trapdoor kinda thing over the pump for easy access because of that....crickets are so stupid, i had the babies in a bare container the other day tryin to feed them all i did was mist it to keep them moist and the crickets drowned...in a mist droplet!
