I heard it was against the law to ship snails without a permit but I could be wrong... Even easier go to Petco, Petsmart or any big box fish store I bet their tanks are infested with them and they will give you as many as you want for free.

What if the snails have diseases

just quarantine them in a separate tank or container for a couple of weeks

I kept mine in a peanut butter jar 3/4 full, washed out real well with a piece of romaine and about 2" of sand blasting sand in the bottom for like 4 weeks. I just put new letuce in nightly and replaced 1/2 the water before putting in the letuce. I had 6 and by the time I went to move them to the main tank I had something like 20 that I could see.

It's only apple snails that require a shipping permit, a couple species are considered a threat to crops if they're released into the wild where they don't belong. MTS, ramshorns, just about any other sort of snail are fine to ship w/out a permit.
Check aquabid.com if no one on the forum has any extras.

My understanding it's that it's all aquatic snails. The regulation is here ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.])

Starts with "This document gives notice that we intend to begin consistently and routinely requiring that a permit must accompany all aquatic snails that are imported into the United States or that are moving interstate."

So far they haven't extended the practice to cover anything other than apple snails. The concern is over potential damage to agriculture by non-native plant eating species. MTS don't eat plants of any kind, much less pose any threat to rice or other crops. Same way with ramshorns and "pond" snails, they're all native species to begin with.

Haha yeah that's what I was thinking before I opened the post!
If you want snails all you need do is go to your LFS and by s small hardy plant. I garauntee you all the snails you can believe not long after putting it in your tank. I had at least a hundred snails in my fw tank and a good deal of them were MTS, all hitch hiked in on a couple plants I picked up.
