My lfs has some fruitflies in little jars. Theyre 20 bucks for about 150. I was wondering if fish really enjoy these, or is it a waste of money.

I would bother with them. You can get a lot of good fish food for that.

just catch them yourself.. i feed my keyhole cichlids on them in the spring and summer months, as treats

I bought some of those flightless fruit flies a few weeks back and none of my fish seemed interested in them...so I guess it depends on the fish....even my bettas didn't care for them.

My danios seem interested in anything. I try feeding all my fish by hand whenever possible ( I wash my hands first), and my sailfin molly and danios peck at my hand and like to sit there.

That is cool, fish learn pretty quickly when and how their food comes, so if you always feed them by hand they will automatically associate your hand with food and have a good positive response to you sticking your hand in the tank.

I've done the same with my angels, I always feed them their bloodworms by hand, so anytime I have to stick my hand in the tank for something else they try to eat my fingers and one dark freckle on my wrist.
I think because they associate my hand (and presence in the tank) with something positive they have grown up to be very relaxed and personable fish, and they don't freak out when I gravel clean and water change.
