My first molly I ever bought, which I've had for 3+ years, died last night. I was so distraught, I couldn't even pull her out of the tank; I had to have my boyfriend do it. He started to head for the toilet to flush her, but I hated the idea of my beloved "Paprika" getting tossed into a sewer. I can be pretty sentimental sometimes. I eventually went to bed, not knowing what my boyfriend did with my fish.
I woke up this morning to hear some strange music playing downstairs. It turns out, my boyfriend prepared a little "fish funeral" complete with a labelled headstone, and put her in the backyard.
This meant a lot to me. For the most part he hates my fish hobby; he says I spend more time taking care of the fish than I spend with him. 7 tanks, 2 30 gallons full of adults and 5 tanks full of variously-aged babies do take up quite some time.
Just thought I'd share this story.
