Well, when i was visiting the petstore today, i noticed a couple of eels swimming around in an aquarium. They were mostly orange and had some green elements, and their snouts had koi-like antennas and small fins down their entire body. Any ideas of what this is and any information on them?
Thank you:ssmile:
Fire eel or somethign like that maybe?

Twas Bichirs, Polyepterus species, probably P. senegalus from your description. They top out at 16 inches, just so's you know.

Try google imaging tiretrack eel, fire eel, and see if those look like them at all. If not try the bichirs (Polypterus senegalus).
The patterning throws me off a lot.

No, still ain't it, but thanks.
They are very sleek and do not have as big fins as the ones you guys found.

Were they very tubular shaped, flattened in any way, anything like that?
How long were they?
No label?

Tubular, a little flat on the "stomach" area. The biggest one i saw i'd guess were around 15+ cm.

Long dorsal fin? (ran the length of their body)
Long anal fin on the bottom?
Was the mouth pointed downward?
What kind of orange exactly? (orange tint of tan, reddish, orange, what?)
How many spots? (large and sparse, small and sparse, lots of small spots?)

No, many small ones along the length of the body. Mouth was centered (almost looked like it smiled). No special anal fin as far as i noticed or remember. It had kind of a bright signal-orange along 60% of the body from the top and down and green on the top (all these colors are not spotted, they are complete).

Lots of little dorsal fins, like one bone and a little fin tissue each?
Google some other bichirs. green bichir, endlicheri bichir, ornate bichir, etc.

is this it? it's in the bottom 2 pics. if it is it's called a ropefish, a reedfish or a snakefish depending on where your from. it is green and orange, has smaller dorsal fins and an elongated body. it is a type of bichir.

Actually ropefish are related to bichirs, but are a different genus. Bichir refers to Polypterus spp.. That is the greenest ropefish I have ever seen.

Yeah, planning on buying an 160ltr tank, so one of those will probably be swimming around in it :)
