In my 29 I added 24 gallons worth of salt and got the right specific gravity. With more rock in there now I probably have under 20 gallons.

One thing I would like to emphasize is that this does NOT mean that all of a sudden your maximum capacity is lower. Tank size and stocking recommendations are established based on common tank setups, not the exact number of gallons in the tank. And there are a lot more things that affect your maximum bioload. For example: a tank with a lot of very high quality live rock and frequent water changes can handle more than a larger tank with less live rock and inadequate water changes. So if you are thinking that now since you have ten gallons less than you thought that you have to drop one of your planned fish, think again.

Hmmmm....I put in my 20g nano with 30 pounds live rock and 20 pounds live sand, and it told me the total volume was 21.5 gallons....how is that possible?

You must have put something in wrong.

yeah, you must have did something wrong, i put in a standard rectangular 24x12x16 20g with 30lbs LR and 20lbs sand and got 17g capacity
