I was wondering if anyone out there has an all-gourami tank (like yours truly)?
I was reading an article here and it said:
The Gourami Aquarium (120-200 liters)
The Gourami Tank is a nice setup if you are a beginner aquarist with a 120-200 liter aquarium. The base of the aquarium will be two different Gourami species: the Pearl Gourami and the Dwarf Gourami. Combining two males and four females from each species (i.e. 12 Gouramis in total) will provide you with a good sex ratio. Two male and two female specimens of the Friendly Betta will add activity to the lower range of the aquarium, while a Bristlenose catfish (one of the Ancistrus spp.) will help you keep algae under control. Last but not least, add a school of six inexpensive Corydoras cat fish. They will add activity to the bottom as well as help you keep the aquarium clean. Never get less than six Corydoras since this is a schooling species.
I believe 120L = about 30 gallons, no?
I have 6 gouramis in my 29g tank currently (I think they are all females). The one time I put dwarfs in with the big kids didn't work out. I was thinking about adding 1 more maximum. (A moonlight) Has anyone here mixed the two successfully?
I also have a 10g with 3 dwarf gouramis. How many more could I add?
Thanks for reading!

I'm not sure I understand the question, what type do you currently have in the 29gal? If they are pearls your pretty maxed out as is. They can reach almost 5 inches. Moonlight's are beautiful and not sure how they would do with pearls, my guess would be better than any type of dwarf. Like you said, the pearls and dwarfs don't exactly coexhist well together. As for the 10gal I would say you could safely add 1 more dwarf keeping in mind the M-F ratio's are right and they are provided with good amount of caves/hiding spaces. You don't want an over-crowded tan with gourami as that seems to be when they get a little cranky with each other. Good Luck! and let us know what you end up doing

In the 29g I have 1 blue, 1 gold, 1 snakeskin, 1 pearl & 2 kissing gourami. They peacefully co-exist.
Thanks for your input! I was thinking only 1 more dwarf in the 10g.
For sure I will keep the big guys and the little guys separate.
I plan on making one out of a 75-110 gallon taht im getting, im only having three gouramis tho, and maybe some tetras and a pleco, but thats it.

That should be lovely!
The 29 gallon is to small for kissing gouramis due to their maximum size of about a foot.

Moonlights also get rather large. Mine was about 4 inches. I would add no more to your tank. If you are lucky enough to have a compatible tank now, no point in pushing your luck.

Wow! I don't have anything close to that. The biggest fish, the snakeskin, is about 4 inches. 1 ft I can't believe that!!
And Lady Hobbs is right, I guess if my tank has no problems now why push my luck. I don't have any bottom-feeders. Would you recommend against that too?

Heck no. Corys would be great. Problem with the gourami's is many of them are aggressive. The dwarfs are fine if you have many more females than males but the larger gourami's can have an attitude and should be in larger tanks. The Blue Gourami (the 3-spot) The Gold gourami, the Moonlight and the Kissing Gourami's can have a real attitude with their own species.

Yes, I know they can be cranky- but honestly mine all get along just fine. They break all the rules, what can I say! :c3:
I'm so thankful that you answered about the corys! Gives me something to look forward to!:hmm3grin2orange:

I went to lfs this week but no corys. I'll try again this week.
How many would you suggest I get?

Wow really??? No cory's?? You should take a trip out to Long Island and hit some real fish stores, lol,jk. I would start with 2 maybe? See how that goes and then maybe add another 2 a week later?

Did you have any Cory in mind? Or just going to go with whatever is available to you at the LFS? Because I have 1 Adolfo's cory and it is about the coolest fish I have ever seen. I cannot for the life of me find another one though. They are mainly wild caught and the one I have is good for at least an hour of entertainment a day. I would recommend it highly if you can find them

thanks! One day I'd love to get a 55gal. I'm at a disadvantage- 1 br apartment will only fit/support so much! Plus, I want to feel like I'm doing a good job at taking care of this one. I've learned alot here in the last month or so.

Hi, I read your article with interest as I have several gourami but they are all males. Do you know where I can purchase a female dwarf gourami?
Thanks so much.

Well, the article here was written by William, I'm assuming. But anyway, not by me. :11:
If the lfs is no help, I would think a breeder, if you can find one nearby.
